Some of the possible hazards include:

  • Trash tossed or blown into the yard that may be chewed on or ingested
  • Improperly stored toxins such as rodenticide, slug bait, fertilizer or antifreeze

We Love the Dog Park

Today, like most days, we went to the Hondo Dog Park. We leave the house shortly after breakfast, load in to the car and we’re off. There is lots of excitement in the car as we approach the park. Once we’re there we have to sit quietly before the door is opened for us, then we wait for each of us to be told we can jump out. Although once in a while we lose control and rush the door and try to jump out, but it doesn’t usually work. Then we are expected to walk nicely on the leash, without pulling, up to the first gate. This is very difficult to do and we cause some frustration for others at times. We often get our way and just pull all the way up to the gate. We look forward to meeting old friends and making new ones. Rowan and Maya, two Irish Wolfhounds, arrived just as we did. They are great friends and we really like to all hang together. They are a bit taller than us, but we are a pack as we walk the path. A little later Babalu’s new best friend, Sami, a beautiful black female, a mix of Dachshund and Labrador Retriever, arrived and whoa, look out the two of them just keep wrestling, chasing and wrestle some more until it’s time to leave. Sami is another four month old and they really see eye to eye. She is a new addition to Sadie’s family. Sadie is a three year old black Labrador Retriever and regular member of ‘our group.’ As if we weren’t having enough fun Lola an 18 month old Puggle arrived and the pack was moving. Lucy met Lola have grown up together. They met at Puppy Romp for several weeks and then went to puppy class together. Since then they play together 3-4 days a week. There are many other regulars at the park that we socialize and run with also. It was a great day at the park the weather was perfect not to hot not to cool there were lots a friends there and we had a great workout, can’t wait for tomorrow.

Babalu, the baby...

Babalu was officially adopted August 19, 2009 from All Terrier Rescue. He was just going to stay with us for a long weekend to help out his foster family while they went out of town, but he fit in with our pack so well that we kept him a little longer and then decided to have him stay. He is 4 months old, born April 19, 2009. Babalu is a Schnauzer mix of who knows what thrown in.

Ricky, Our Stray

Ricky was adopted December 24, 2008 from the Bonnie L. Hays Small Animal Shelter. He had been a stray that had been on the streets for several months. He was matted and many parasites from eating and drinking whatever he could find on the ground. The veterinarian guessed he was about 18 months to two years old. We celebrated his birthday on August 24. Ricky is a of ‘Westie’ (West Highland Terrier) Mix. He is also very laid back; he is cautious and afraid of many things, but beginning to trust that our human won’t let him get hurt.
